Impromptu rest days and dealing with them

I’m the first person to admit I train a little too often and don’t rest often enough. I think it goes back to my running days and my view that volume is king especially if done at the right intensity.

Having taken up track racing and with TTs and Road racing in full flight I have found myself suddenly having rest days. How does this happen ? The races get cancelled due to weather, it is as simple as that really.

Ok it isn’t that simple as you have to mentally deal with it and that is where the challenge comes.

You have to ask yourself, what is the value of the session ?

It comes down to this and only this

If you can justify the session do it but make sure the session truly has a value.

This evening was a great example

I got a rest day as a 6pm ride had no value to me as I am racing tomorrow.

Rach got intervals on the turbo as she needed the hard session and will just do a training ride tomorrow.
